The tournament was named for a man and his brothers whose infectious enthusiasm for chess caused one of the Center's supporters, Al Murphy, to develop a life-long passion for the game. A startling 82 players competed in four sections:

Premier Scholastic:

John Rouleau continued his winning ways, sweeping the section with a perfect 4-0 score.

Grade 8 - Adult Section:

Eighth-grader Michael Ng, the youngest player in the section, took home the championship trophy with a score of 3½/4.

Grades 4 - 7 Section:

Brendan Conway won all four of his games to win the big trophy in the largest section.

Kindergarten - Grade 3 Section:

Aaron Perman put on an impressive performance to win all of his games.
