Rated Beginners Open & Premier Scholastic

On a hot summer day, eighty players found refuge from the heat of the day but not the heat of the battle when they converged at the U.S. Chess Center.

Seventh Grade through Adult Section:

George Washington University student Sachin Singhal swept the section with a 4-0 score.

Primary (K-3) Section:

Julene Latter (The rising first grader scored 3½ of 4 points.)

Elementary (4-6) Section

Danny Houck and Brynn Toops each scored a perfect 4 points. Danny took the Championship trophy after winning a blitz play-off game.

Premier Scholastic

Rising third grader Alex Barnett won the Championship trophy over Denis Shpits on the third tie-break. Each player scored 3 points out of 4. Alex was the only elementary school student to participate in the event, which was open to the top scholastic players in the area.
